52 Fridays Week 22 {{growth}} My 25 Year Volleyball reunion

WOW!  Can you believe that I played on the very first Spartan volleyball team 25 years ago??

Well I did, and this past weekend we had a reunion in my hometown of Killam, AB.  It was a very happy occasion and I believe that everyone had a blast, I know I sure did.

The planning for this event was started back in the spring of 2011, there were a great bunch of organizers who worked tirelessly and gave so much of there free time as well as themselves to throw this wonderful event.  Initially it was intended to honour and thank our longtime coach of 25 years, Bob Gabruck for all his time, commitment and dedication to the club and the community.  Unfortunately Bob fell ill last year and although his battle with cancer took him from us on May 10th 2012, I know he was there with us in spirit.

The event went on as planned, Auntie Liz (Bobs wife) their children; Cayla, Devon and Brandon were all in attendance and we were able to thank them for everything that they as a family had done over the years, especially for sharing there husband and father so generously with everyone.

My sister Tenniel organized a scrimmage game of volleyball saturday morning for anyone who wanted to play.  I decided to sit this one out, but did bring my camera along.  They split into two teams, old vs young and went to it.  I have to admit I was impressed all my “Old” team – mates still had what it took to beat the younger group.  All be it they were pretty sore the next morning. 52 Fridays Week 22 {{growth}} My 25 Year Volleyball reunion

We had a fun filled evening consisting of a great catered meal, a Rockin’ DJ and catching up with old friends and coaches.  Speaking of coaches the Spartan volleyball club has been fortunate to have been coached and affiliated with numerous individuals who themselves have made an impact on the volleyball community.  In attendance on saturday evening were: Peter Kalis, Rod Durant, Lee Carter, Pat McFeely and Dale Johns.  All accomplished and high ranking coaches in todays volleyball circles.

I cannot express my thanks to everyone who organized and help make this event the huge success that it was, but I will be forever grateful.  It was fun to see and catch up with all my old friends and it was great to see such support from the Town of Killam.  Here’s to another 25 years of Spartans volleyball.

And how about a look at the jerseys.  From left to right they are Old to new.

And the giant cake cutting.  Honors done by Cayla Gabruck and Lee Carter.

And the original Spartan Volleyball team.  Most of us were in attendance that evening.

I think that this post indeed shows everyone “growth” which was this weeks prompt.  I know that I have grown as an individual because of the influences of this great organization.  You can also see how much the club itself has Grown over the years.  Winning Many gold metal games, Provincials and even a National title.  The ability to grow through this great organization is bountiful and I hope that many more girls will continue to grow in the future.

Now be sure to check out the rest of our weekly blog circle to see what my friends came up with for this weeks theme. 52 Fridays Week 22 {{growth}} My 25 Year Volleyball reunion  http://www.lizahallphotography.com
